| Al Palladini, Member of Provincial Parliament for the
riding of Vaughan-King-Aurora, served as Minister of Transportation from June, 1995, until
October, 1997. He has served as
Minister of Economic Development and Trade since October, 1997 to February, 2001. Mr. Palladini was first elected to the Ontario Legislature on June 8, 1995. He was re-elected for a second consecutive term in June, 1999. Born in Prossedi, Italy, Mr. Palladini immigrated to Canada with his family and, in 1954, made Toronto's "Little Italy" his home. Prior to his election as M.P.P., Mr. Palladini owned and ran an automobile dealership in Woodbridge, Ontario. He was awarded the Canadian Auto World Marketer of the Year in 1994. He is past chairman of the York-Finch General Hospital Foundation and former director of the York University Scholarship Alliance Board. A proud member of the Canadian-Italian Business and Professional Association of Toronto and the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Palladini was a recipient of the Vaughan Outstanding Business Achievement Award (1994). He was a member of the Woodbridge Rotary Club for several years. Mr. Palladini has always believed it is important to be involved in his community. For many years, he was involved in sponsoring and assisting minor league sports such as hockey, soccer, and baseball for children in the community. He has organized events to raise money for charities such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the United Way, and helped fundraise for organizations such as Caritas, a drug rehabilitation program, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation (Vaughan chapter). In 1992, Al Palladini was awarded the 125 year commemorative medal from the Canadian government for his community involvement. He has been recognized for outstanding support of the Children's Wish Foundation. |
